    Design features.
The cosmonaut self-rescue device was designed for operation with spacesuits of the Orlan family during extra-vehicular activity. The device is mounted on spacesuit onboard the Russian segment of the International Space Station. In case the cosmonaut loses contact with the surface of the station the device provides a possibility of maneuvering using gas micro thrusters in tether-free (and connection-free) open outer space in order to return to the International Space Station. The device is not intended for routine maneuvering near the station, as it has only a small supply of propellant gas and solely serves as self-rescue equipment.
